Casarossa Tinctoria is a project by Gabriella De Donno, an architect with a deep respect for the environment and a great passion for all things handmade.
Almost by chance, as a result of her allergy to synthetic textiles, she started studying the process of naturally dyeing fabrics using plant-based elements, first only in theory and then in practice, in her home-workshop in Lecce.
Experiment after experiment, she learned how to extract dyes from the elements the Earth offers, and how to use them to dye robes, kimonos and other clothes, all exclusively in pure silk.
Strictly abiding by ancient techniques, she is able to create genuinely astonishing nuances and colours. For Gabriella, each dye bath is a new emotion: in this craft, nature and creativity work together, just like a charm.

In Apulia, architect Gabriella De Donno has created a collection of slips in pure Italian silk, dyed by her with the fruits of nature, a laborious and time-consuming process using only solar energy. Coffee, tea, herbal teas and walnuts (leaves and husk), grapes, pomegranates, the mint from her garden, various flowers and, for the indigo color, the ford that grows in the Marche region. The ingredients are macerated in order to prepare a decoction, which is filtered. Then, the silk is immersed in the steaming pot. Later, the fabric is turned, and turned again... and thus it slowly takes colour: each bath is a magic and the difference in tone and shade inspires Gabriella on the pattern to create, always unique and unrepeatable. A visit to her atelier is a must.
