Legatoria Ciani is a craft bookbinding workshop located in Tavagnacco, near Udine. Paola Mattiuzzo has been running it since 1998, but the history of this family business dates back to 1942, when it was founded by Giovanni Ciani.
For three generations, with the same passion as in the past, the workshop has carried on a trade all about patience and craftsmanship: artistic bookbinding.
Paola Mattiuzzo studied Architecture and Interior Design. Driven by her creativity and her love for paper and handmade crafts, she learned the trade from Giovanna Ciani, daughter of the founder. Together they were able to innovate the atelier’s production, giving life to a line of notebooks and gift albums based on the pursuit of ever-new shapes and materials, with a focus on recycling and sustainability.
Each cover is designed and created just like a custom suit, tailored to each book: this way, bookbinding brings beauty into everyday life, turning each object into something unique and original.

In Paola's bookbindery, the first thing that strikes you is the chromatic taste and the ability to combine different materials and papers. Nothing is thrown away: artistic masterpieces can be created even from the scraps of paper!
