Officina d’Arte Famà is a stucco and decoration workshop in San Costantino Calabro, a small village close to Vibo Valentia.
It was founded by Rocco Famà after a few years of experience alongside local craftsmen, from whom he learned the secrets of the trade.
In recent years, his sons have also joined him: Antonio, Giuseppe and Francesco, respectively restorer, sculptor and art historian, and today his fourth son Michele is also beginning to frequent the family workshop.
Father and sons combine their skills and together produce bas-relief and high relief decorations on architecture, as well as artistic sculptures, mainly in cement mortar of their own production. After attending the academy of fine arts or university, the sons learned the trade also and above all alongside their father, and introduced experiments with other materials, such as marble, wood and resins.
The work starts with the drawing, which is made according to the customer’s needs and tastes. Then, in the workshop, they create the movable pieces, sculptures or clay models, while on site, masonry and decoration is carried out directly on the surface. The result is truly unique decorative and architectural elements that embellish private homes, churches, cemeteries, museums and public spaces.
