With a diploma in Industrial Design from the Scuola Politecnica of Design of Milan, Cristina Busnelli began her activity as a weaver, initially making tapestries, designed to be reproduced in several copies, and decorated with geometric patterns: her research into three-dimensional production, at first with a uniquely “optical” nature, then becomes material. Cristina started to experiment with combining different materials and techniques; curved weaves, materials of different thicknesses, entwined motifs and smocking, enriching the experience, which from visual also became tactile. The craftswoman then extended her production to costume jewellery, clothing accessories and objects for homes and for churches. Each piece is unique, woven on a handloom and the result of a process of which Cristina follows every phase of production, starting from the choice of materials.

Cristina is first and foremost a great artist: it would be reductive to define her tapestries as woven as they are chromatic compositions, musical symphonies, and tactile emotions. Touching them with the fingertips, one can feel the different materials that have been used, the interlock of the warp and weft. One can almost perceive the coloured strands like a message in Braille, and then when seen with the eyes, reality is more than expected and we are transported into these surreal landscapes. Cristina is a reserved and gentle soul; she expresses her charisma through her loom and the most unexpected materials that come into her hands. Through her mastery, anything can become art.
