Vetroricerca is a glassmaking workshop founded in Bolzano in 1996 by a group of local craftsmen. Initially, they operated mainly as a training centre, while also experimenting with innovative techniques and designs, collaborating with the most renowned glassmakers and designers of the time. Today Vetroricerca is an authentic reference point in the field of glassmaking, both nationally and internationally, receiving more and more commissions from public institutions and artists, while also providing training courses in partnership with many educational institutions, such as the Libera Università di Bolzano. Vetroricerca’s key figures are Alessandra Piazza and Alessandro Cuccato. These two masters have found in their thirty years long collaboration a way to give voice to their artistic calling, getting the chance to give life to a variety of creations such as jewels, tableware and home decors – all featured in the playful and ironic collection “Small works”.

I met Alessandro Cuccato, founder of Vetroricerca, while he was working with Leonardo Nava on San Francesco al Fopponino’s stained glass windows, in Milan. I appreciate their ability to imagine new ways and create luminous patterns which also serve as sculptural surfaces, giving a great variety of material textures and surfaces to their stained glass windows and artworks.
