Gypsea is an artistic workshop located in Gubbio, near Perugia, founded in 1991 by Patrizia Ramacci and Vittorio Cacciamani with an idea: to revive the nearly lost craft trade of plaster, but with a contemporary twist, thus combining tradition and innovation.
In their atelier, they create functional and decorative objects made out of gypsum, according to the ancient craft tradition of this trade: each piece is unique, hand-finished and hand-painted. Their inspiration comes from our artistic heritage, thus all of the workshop’s production is a tribute to Italian beauty.
“Archivio delle Mani Maestre” (Archive of Master Hands), on the other hand, is an artistic project which they started 25 years ago, aiming to highlight the fact that the know-how of craftsmen resides in their hands: Patrizia and Vittorio recovered some 18th century artefacts in which the fingerprints of the craftsmen who created them where still visible. Inspired by these, they decided to create a physical archive consisting of plaster casts of “Master Hands”, giving life to a project striving to showcase the incredible work and lives of these craftsmen.
