Jules Vissers is a Dutch artist. In her Atelier Taftique in Florence, she creates original textile works in abstract or figurative style, such as tapestries, paintings and panels, combining and revisiting different traditional and modern weaving techniques.
Since 1998, she has lived in Tuscany, where she moved to study at the Academy of Fine Arts.
Inspired by the avant-gardes of the 20th century, in particular Cubism and Art Deco, Jules creates works with an unmistakable style, using carefully selected Italian yarns, i.e. natural or recycled fibres from local factories in Florence and Prato, or from Northern Italy.
Reinterpreting the Florentine textile tradition, and combining it with the most modern technique of hand-tufting, as well as with needlework, crochet and felting, she weaves the threads into complex and intricate works, where the colours and shapes of nature she is inspired by become contemporary and evocative images, with soft, three-dimensional shapes and strong contrasts of complementary colours.
She regularly exhibits her creations at trade fairs and events in Italy and abroad. She has received many prizes and awards, including the European Textile & Craft Award 2024.
