In the mid XIX century, Nicola Bruno, a coppersmith from Basilicata, moved to Sardinia, where he produced and mended metal household utensils for the villagers of the area.
His business has been handed down from fathers to sons, evolving and innovating through many decades. In the 60s, Tonino Bruno took over and has since then been developing new production and decoration techniques. He has also carried on teaching activities and participated in various group exhibitions of applied art. Subsequently, he established Bottega Artigiana BAM, a metalwork business specialized in the artistic working and decoration of wrought-iron, copper, brass and steel. His sons Vittorio and Andrea graduated from the Politecnico di Milano and from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera respectively. They combined their family’s know-how and tradition with their experiences in the contemporary craftsmanship and design. They brought their expertise to the business in order to start an innovative project plan, endorsing project culture and improving communication strategies.
The Brunos are pursuing this path, so that they can achieve a renovation of contemporary craftsmanship in Sardinia, excellence, and most importantly, sustainablility. BAM oughts to create a local network of expertises, collaborating with masters of several fields beside the metalwork, such as wood, ceramics, fabrics, wicker, leather and glass working.
