Giampaolo Bertozzi and Stefano Dal Monte Casoni met in the classrooms of the State School of Art for Ceramics of Faenza, and then continued their studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna. In 1980, their common interest gave rise to the company Bertozzi & Casoni, which was founded with the intention of carrying out research in the field of sculpture. First of all, they worked with painted majolica, then they started to experiment with the combination of materials of industrial origin. Their favourite themes are vanitas and still lives, which undergo fantastic transfigurations: their ceramic sculptures give shape to transience, deterioration and the transitory nature of things, between surrealism and formal hyperrealism. Their works have been exhibited in prestigious exhibition venues, while in 2017 a whole museum dedicated to them was inaugurated in Sassuolo in 2017.
