Giancarlo Busato is the third generation of printers in his family. Located in a sixteenth-century building in the historic centre of Vicenza, the Busato print workshop was founded by his grandfather in 1946.
The workshop has always been a point of reference for international artists, from the great twentieth-century masters to contemporary illustrators, who enjoy working with the printers on their creations. Images are printed using a wide variety of hand-printing techniques, including drypoint, soft-ground etching, burin engraving and mezzotint.
Giancarlo likes to describe himself as a ‘wandering printer’, as his passion for his job has led him to travel far and wide on his quest to share his knowledge, working on projects with countless organisations and institutions all over the world.

A visit to Stamperia Busato is a real synaesthetic journey. The prints hanging on the walls and the matrices will catch your eye and make you look all around; the strong smell of ink will permeate your nostrils.It’s impossible to keep yourself from touching all the objects that surround you: the wooden printing press, the cold lithographic limestone and the walls of the 16th-century palace… And then there are Giancarlo and Valerio, always smiling and friendly, as well as a lot of artists that, for over 70 years, have been printing their artworks here, following the rules and the secrets kept by these great artisans.
