Francesco and Giuseppe are twin brothers united by the passion for craftsmanship. Together they founded the Crisa paper mill, in Leonforte, near Enna.
In this workshop in the heart of Sicily, the two brothers craft handmade paper, applying very old techniques and with the sole use of their hands, a loom and a great deal of passion.
After training and working in Florence for some time, they decided to go back to their homeland and revitalize the noble trade of the master papermaker and watermarker.
Their paper is handmade, sheet by sheet, starting from cotton: the results are unique and high quality paper sheets, destined to artists, publishers, typographers and calligraphers; but they also make hand-bound notebooks, cards and envelopes, artistic prints, watermarked paper and all kinds of custom items.
They also offer guided tours and workshops for those who wish to learn more about the processing techniques and personally craft a paper artefact.

The Lo Gioco brothers, who graduated in Art History in Florence, started a special collaboration, Giuseppe with OMA and Francesco with Atelier degli Artigianelli. They both proved to be very successful. Hence the idea of embarking on an entrepreneurial path, and after obtaining a diploma in Fabriano (at the Carifacarte paper mill) and winning a competition for enterpreunership in Southern Italy, they decided to return to Leonforte in the province of Enna, their hometown, to start their own business: CRISA - Carta a mano. Thus, they created a splendid paper mill in Sicily, where they follow the Fabriano example and bring the sheet of paper to life by using cotton, water and glue.
