Young artisan Francesca Frau strives to keep alive the family tradition and trade, which she learned from her father. Greatly inspired by the love for her homeland, in her lab in Serrenti she crafts exclusive wrought iron interior design items as well as outdoor decorations, such as mirrors, lamps, bed frames and much more. The skilful use of ancient metal forging, flaming and chiselling techniques, alongside her signature feminine and refined handiwork, contribute to the creation of unique items – renowned all over the island – ranging from classic to modern style, where elegant aesthetics, functionality and attention to detail are perfectly balanced.

I met Francesca thanks to the project “Vetrina dell’Artigianato Sardo”, an institutional website dedicated to showcasing Sardinian craftsmanship. Upon meeting her, I initially asked myself how could she, such a young, gentle and delicate looking woman, carry on this line of work. Then, I realized that the passion which drives her to keep the family tradition of wrought iron alive, is much stronger than the actual strength needed to strike and bend the iron. Her style is experimental and her creations combine aesthetic and functionality.
