Franco Zedda is a master goldsmith based in Iglesias, extremely renowned throughout Sardinia for his expertise in the world of jewellery, the art of goldsmithing and traditional Sardinian filigree, which he executes with great mastery and virtuosity.
He trained as an artistic foundryman with sculptor Franco D’Aspro, later approaching the filigree technique with master Gianpaolo Arrais in Cagliari. In 1990 he opened his workshop in Iglesias’ historical centre, where to this day he creates wonderful jewels, rich in detail, applying the typical decorative motifs of the Island’s repertoire. Actively involved in the transmission of this craft tradition, he teaches the secrets of filigree to younger generations and students from Art School, and he takes part into relevant trade events and conferences. In collaboration with designers Setsu and Shino bu Ito, he won the prize “Compasso d’Oro” at the 19th Biennale of Sardinian Crafts (2011).
