Il Bottegaccio is an old craft workshop in the heart of the Sasso Caveoso in Matera founded by Dino Daddiego and managed today by his sons Mario and Carmine. These brothers are skilled craftsmen specialised in ceramics and papier mâché from which they create typical local artefacts from ornaments and sculptures to decorative elements and splendid nativity scenes. All these unique pieces are handmade, decorated and finished with details in wrought iron, wood and terracotta and are are characterised by their brilliant colours and spirited style.
This fascinating workshop hidden away in the caves of Monterrone is renowned for its nativity scenes in papier mâché which have received national and international accolades and have been exhibited in important cultural venues such as the Vatican, Quirinale and in the Arena in Verona.
