Giovanna Canu founds the brand Joy-Jo in 2009. After 15 years working as an architect and design manager, she felt the need to take a different route. She travelled to Barcelona to study at Jaime Diaz’s school, El Taller de Joyerìa – Centro de investigación de Joyería Contemporanea, where she attended the biennial course in jewellery making in order to later open her own workshop. In 2013 she also opened an atelier in Milan, where she now designs and hand crafts jewels in her signature style, applying weaving techniques to goldsmith. Her creations are light as feathers, the result of years of research and studies, complete dedication and attention to details, but above all, incredible patience: to weave extra-thin metal threads, made of copper or silver, is a lengthy and intricate process which requires great technical skills. Each piece is rigorously “hand-weaved” and each stone is applied with the level of care that only genuine artisans can achieve.

Do you know what textile jewellery is? It’s a special technique used by Giovanna Canu to transform the millenary experience of tailors, weavers and artisans into jewels. Joy-Jo is the name of her brand, specialized in unique and extremely lightweight pieces, like a shiny handmade peplos you can wear without even feeling it on your skin. Design jewels, bracelets, earrings are shaped in circular, spiral or broken oval forms, reminiscent of feminine images and symbols. Her spirit guide is the need for expressing and sharing emotions, by combining the skill of her hands, the versatile matter and the intensity of her soul.
