Always gifted with manual talent and a passion for art, Lisa Fontana is a weaver from Turin. Born in Pietrasanta in 1988, she attended the art school in Carrara, then she graduated in Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in the same city, and eventually in Theory and Practice of Art Therapy at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan.
During her studies, she discovered a love for the world of textiles and attended workshops in weaving, fabric dyeing and felt, as well as an advanced course in Creation of art textiles at the Fondazione Lisio Arte della Seta.
She then opened her atelier in the centre of Turin, where she creates textile home accessories and contemporary works of art, exclusively with natural yarns, which are hand-woven on ancient looms.
Her most recognisable works are her fabric books, which she likes to call “pages in constant evolution”: they were developed from two artist’s books she made in 2018, and they are the result of careful research into textile traditions.
In addition to artistic research and experimentation, she is dedicated to teaching the technique: in fact, she collaborates with museums and cultural bodies that promote this art. He won the Navetta di Rame Prize in 2021.
