Silvia Di Piazza is a craftswoman-artist, a lover of creativity and textiles.
In her workshop in Comeglians, a small mountain village near Udine, she creates carpets, tapestries and works of art with valuable natural yarns, such as pure virgin wool from New Zealand, and by using the hand-tufting technique, a weaving process that allows any design to be created, through the use of a special gun that perforates the underlying fabric and weaves the threads into soft compositions.
By combining traditional craftsmanship and technology, this process allows for the creation of unique and customised creations of any shape and size.
Silvia also makes fabrics on request, starting from the idea or design of the customer or other artists and designers: after making a draft on paper, she transfers the design to the back of a cloth stretched over the loom. With the tufting gun, the threads are inserted into the cloth, respecting the design and colours provided. The back of the cloth is then covered with a layer of natural rubber, while on the front of the carpet the surface is cut and shaved to make it uniform.
She also holds courses in her atelier to pass on the secrets of this technique.
