Ernesto Canepa has worked as a potter in Albisola, Liguria, for over 45 years. He has been experimenting with a wide variety of materials and techniques, from those of ancient tradition to the most modern and sophisticated. He is convinced that there is no end to what one can do, learn and discover in the art of pottery.
In 1974 he started the firm Studio Ernan Design with Anna Maria Piacetti, carrying on Ivos Pacino Piacetti‘s activity. Ivos was a famous artist and potter from the 20s. Today, the workshop creates artistic pieces using the specific techniques and traditions of Albisola. Signature pieces are created as one-offs or as series, and modern pieces are produced in close partnership with Italian and international artists, designers and architects.
Ernesto Canepa has been awarded numerous prizes. He is also a member of the National Pottery Council and was an important voice in shaping the current law protecting studio pottery in Italy. This law established the D.O.C. quality assurance label.
